Christmas, as we can all agree, is the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. There are many reasons why someone may celebrate Christmas, but for us, it’s the season of Jesus’ birth and the beginning of God’s plan to save us. So, what is the reason for the season? Even before the birth of Jesus, there were many prophecies telling people that He would come down to Earth to save us.
In Isaiah 9:6 (NIV) it reads: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
This verse shows us the reason that we celebrate Christmas today- not for gifts, not for personal pleasure, but to celebrate the birth of our saviour and Christ. Many times in the rush of life nowadays, we forget the real reason why we celebrate Christmas, distracted by gifts, celebrations, and the events of the Christmas season that we all enjoy today. The reason why Jesus came to die for us on the cross is not just so that we could have eternal salvation, but to show us what it means to be a selfless, caring, and loving child of God.
So, why do you celebrate Christmas? Is it for selfish desires, or is it to worship Jesus? Remember that we must stay focused on what is truly important during this season, instead of being distracted or carried away by superficial things like Santa Claus or presents. Here is a prayer for you to carry this Christmas season:
Dear Jesus,
I pray for the person reading this article, and that they would be able to fix their eyes on what the true reason for the season is. I pray that they will be able to remember why Jesus came to die on the cross for us, and the legacy that he left behind. We thank you for your sacrifice on the cross and thank you for this beautiful Christmas season. In the name of Jesus we pray,
Amen.
