Student Interview: Markus Uy

Arielle: Starting off, tell us a little bit about yourself, what is your name, grade, favourite food and favourite song?

Markus: Yeah, my name’s Markus Uy, I’m in grade 10, my favourite food’s sushi.. (umm..) Probably something by Laufey like “Falling Behind” because it also reflects my class’s love life and mine. 

Arielle: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

Markus: It would be to speed and slow down time without any consequences ‘cause if I need more sleep I’ll just be like “oh yeah the next 3 seconds are gonna feel like 3 hours”.

Arielle: What’s your family like?

Markus: I have 2 sisters, 

Arielle: And… intense side eye*

Markus: It’s pretty funny

Arielle: You’re calling me funny?

Markus: Yeah ‘cause you’re so over confident all the time.

Arielle: sigh If your life were turned into a movie, what would the title be? “Homework the Movie”?

Markus: It would be called “Honestly…”

Arielle: That’s amazing. Would you like to tell us about the honesty scale?

Markus: In my class I got too tired of trying to be nice to people when their art sucked so I just told them honestly, it looks good, and one day I told someone that if I say honestly I mean the opposite and everyone got annoyed cuz I always said honestly to them

Arielle: Which classroom is your favourite and why?

Markus: Like the room or the teacher? (ummm…) For the room, obviously the foods room ‘cause of the air conditioner.. For the teacher, probably Mr. Chan ‘cause he’s chill, but his classroom has such bad circulation..

Arielle: If you could instantly master any new skill, what would it be?

Markus: I would like to have the ability to instantly master the ability to master any skill instantly. But mostly blender. 

Arielle: What’s your favorite way to procrastinate?

Markus: Oh simple, pretend I have to send emails to random teachers and just watch youtube, Uncle Roger or random music videos, and after 1 hour of complaining to my mom (although she doesn’t really listen to me) I actually lock in.

Arielle: Has your faith ever been challenged during your time in high school? How did you handle it?

Markus: No ‘cause I’m not a girl so I don't have to deal with drama.. But you know, if I were a girl, my faith would definitely be challenged because of some incident in grade 8. And then a bunch of things redacted.

Arielle: What’s your “guilty pleasure” TV show or movie that you’d watch even if no one was around?

Markus: Uhhh, actually (like genuinely..) Avatar’s pretty good but we have to plan to binge it..

Arielle: What are some of your goals for the yearbook club in this upcoming year?

Markus: Make it even better than last year's (duh..) And also making sure Claire (Tippett) remembers to save her files.

Arielle: How much time do you spend on homework per day? 

Markus: Too much, would not recommend..

Arielle: What do you want to change or improve about LGCA before you graduate?

Markus: I want kids to be enthusiastic about learning ‘cause I’m done with doing projects where some people don't do their work. So I threaten them but they still don’t do their work so it’s just not done.. I don't want to be the only boy getting Principal’s List, it’s really embarrassing..

Arielle: Which person in the school do you feel would be most likely to randomly create a flash mob?

Markus: What’s a flash mob? Can you google that for me..

Arielle: It’s when people come together and randomly dance.

Markus: Oh that’s what it is.. (umm..) Kyle Tiu just because.
