Ever feel like you just can’t find a good book you haven’t read? Well, here’s a complete list of fantasy-based recommendations that aren’t quite that popular.
Caraval
Author: Stephanie Garber
Age rating: YA 13+
Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Mystery

Scarlett Dragna, a girl trapped by her abusive father, dreams of escaping to a magical game called Caraval, where the prize is one wish. When she finally receives an invitation after years of waiting. She escapes with her sister Donatella, only for her to go missing at the start of the game. Scarlet must navigate through a world full of trickery and deception in order to find Donatella and win the game. But the most important thing, to remember that it is all just a game… This book was amazing, easily one of the best we have ever read. If you like fantasy, mystery with a bit of romance then Caraval is the series for you. There are so many twists and turns that will make your head spin, while still making you marvel at the descriptive writing surrounding you. This book truly comes to life around you as Stephanie Garber does an amazing job at grounding you in the moment. The ending had my head spinning, and it took me a while to make sense of it all.
One Dark Window
Author: Rachel Gillig
Age rating: YA(15+)
Genres: Gothic Fantasy, Romance
The cost of magic may be madness. Once, a deadly magical infection swept the kingdom of Blunder, leaving Elspeth branded with dark veins and a terrifying voice in her head, a spirit she calls the "Nightmare," trapped inside her mind. He offers protection and immense power, but demands a terrible price—her sanity. One Dark Window has a really interesting take on magic and powers that we have never seen before. The themes that this book explores are totally unique and very much gives that stormy-late-night-reading vibe. This book is perfect if you are a regular reader, although it may be hard to finish for a new reader as it drags on a little bit in the middle. If you are someone who likes to take risks, then dive straight into this book and we hope that it lives up to your expectations.
The Selection
Author: Kiera Cass
Age rating: YA 12+
Genres: Dystopian Fantasy, Romance
The selection is such a romance staple for me. It is really entertaining and keeps you hooked throughout and is quite a fast read. Every generation the selection is the chance of a lifetime for 35 girls to compete for the hand of the prince. The selection gives girls the opportunity to escape the caste given to them by birth, and to be swept into a fairytale of princess gowns and royalty. This is every girl's dream… except for America Singers. It is her worst nightmare, she hates the idea of being off and leaving her secret love Aspen Leger to compete for the heart of Prince Maxon. She joins regardless after being persuaded by her mother and now she has to deal with living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks. Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself—and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined. We love the threat of the rebels and the detailed scenes that Kiera Cass portrays. And overall the vibe and feeling of this book is just so addicting and will be an easy favourite for everyone who reads. The twists and turns that this story takes perfectly adds tension and alludes to the fate of some of the other girls (P.S do not get attached to the other girls, your heart will shatter from what happens to some of them).
Once Upon A Broken Heart
Author: Stephanie Garber
Age rating: YA (13+)
Genres: Fantasy, Romance
This book is fast paced, and keeps you hooked the entire way. Evangeline Fox, is a helpless romantic, and makes a deal with the Prince of Hearts after being betrayed by her lover. In exchange for his help, he demands she kiss three people at any time of his choosing. After the first kiss, Evangeline realizes she is in a dangerous bargain, and he has plans for her further than their deal. One thing that we really love is the magical setting. Stephanie Garber describes the surroundings so vividly it is like she is painting a picture in your mind, and the plot only becomes more and more delightful with every chapter. This book will always hold a special place on my shelf. we highly recommend it.
(P.S the second book of the series will leave you in emotional turmoil and you might cry. Enjoy!)
Heartless
Author: Marissa Meyers
Age rating: YA (13+)

Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Fairytale Retelling
Marissa Meyers really has a talent for worldbuilding. Her take and descriptions of Wonderland are so rich and detailed that it draws you into the crazy confusing atmosphere that surrounds the story. The story focuses on the origin of the infamous Queen of Hearts, and we enjoyed seeing her transform from a sweet, ambitious girl to the cold-hearted “villain” she becomes. This author's ability to create emotional stakes and tension keeps readers equally hooked from start to finish. We 100% recommend it.
